An independent research service
My Contractor Report publishes this website and these guides. The service is independent of Florida DBPR and the Florida Division of Corporations. Source links identify where records come from; they do not represent government approval of MCR or a contractor.
Check My Quote is free and requires no account. It compares the company name and license number on a quote. The broader homeowner report has a separate request and email-confirmation flow and may include additional available records. Learn more about MCR.
What information the quote check uses
Business filings: the search returns Florida Sunbiz filing candidates. You select the exact company using its name, document number, and available address details. Similar names remain separate choices.
License records: the comparison searches the entered license number in MCR’s imported DBPR datasets for construction, electrical contractors, architecture and interior design, home inspection, and mold-related services. These categories do not cover every possible profession, local license, or business arrangement.
Broader reports: available insurance information, submitted coverage documents, and public feedback may also be presented. These are separate from the quote comparison. Availability varies; an absent item does not establish that no record exists elsewhere.
How the identity comparison works
- You enter the business name from the quote and select a Sunbiz filing.
- You enter the full license number, including letters.
- MCR compares the quoted name, the selected filing, and available business associations for that number.
- The result explains aligned details, differences, and questions still requiring confirmation.
Spacing and punctuation can be normalized, but legal entity suffixes matter. A similar name or individual qualifier alone is not enough to resolve an ambiguous business link. Registration categories such as QB or FRO are distinguished from contractor trade-license classifications.
Read each date for what it actually measures
A Sunbiz retrieval date describes when filing data was obtained. Saved search data is labeled. A DBPR query date describes when MCR searched its stored records. A comparison date describes when the result was created.
The last import date of the DBPR datasets is currently unverified. A query performed today does not make an older stored record current. Check My Quote is not a live DBPR status check. Use the official DBPR portal to confirm current standing, expiration, and classification.
Keep dates with any result you save. Revisit time-sensitive information before relying on it later in a project.
What the results mean
- Names align: the checked identity details support a connection to the selected filing.
- Names differ: at least one compared business name needs an explanation.
- Not confirmed: the available evidence does not establish a clear connection, or the check is incomplete.
- Registration only: the entered number is a registration category; request the relevant contractor trade license.
- Source unavailable: a required source could not be checked. Retry or use the official source.
Missing records and unavailable sources do not establish that someone is unlicensed. The comparison is not a safety score, recommendation, or approval to hire.
What still needs your review
MCR’s quote comparison does not establish price reasonableness, contract sufficiency, work quality, current insurance coverage, or whether a license covers your particular project. Confirm scope and status with DBPR, permit questions with the building department, and coverage with the insurer or agent.
If something appears wrong, preserve the filing or license number, the source link, and the date. Compare with the issuing agency’s record. Corrections to official records must go through the agency that maintains them; an MCR result cannot change those records.
These guides explain research steps and cite their sources. The review date records this editorial review, not a fresh check of every contractor or dataset. About MCR provides the service’s background.
Official sources
Use the issuing source to confirm time-sensitive information. A guide’s review date is not the date a contractor’s records were retrieved.
